Neuroimaging Postdoctoral Fellow Position

Neuroimaging Postdoctoral Fellow Position (Taipei Medical University, Taiwan)

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow in neuroimaging to join an innovative, multidisciplinary, and internationally collaborative research program integrating psychiatry, neuroscience, and immunology to uncover the biological mechanisms of severe mental illness.

The position is based at the Psychiatric Neuroscience Lab, Taipei Medical University (Taiwan), jointly led by Dr. Matteo Martino (Graduate Institute of Mind, Brain, and Consciousness) and Dr. Paola Magioncalda (International Master/Ph.D. Program in Medicine, College of Medicine).

Research focus and project overview

Our lab investigates the core and multifaceted pathophysiological mechanisms of major psychiatric disorders, with a particular focus on bipolar disorder, as well as schizophrenia and major depression. We aim to develop mechanistic models of severe mental illness, integrating clinical, neuroimaging, physiological, and immunological data within unified theoretical frameworks.

Our work has been published in leading journals including Nature Mental Health, Molecular Psychiatry, and PNAS.

The successful candidate will play a central role in advancing neuroimaging analyses and multimodal integration. Available datasets include structural MRI, diffusion MRI, and resting-state functional MRI. Ongoing data collection includes multimodal neuroimaging, actigraphy and physiological monitoring, electroretinography, and blood data.

Role and responsibilities

  • Lead independent neuroimaging analyses (structural, diffusion, and resting-state functional MRI)
  • Contribute to the acquisition and organization of neuroimaging and multimodal datasets
  • Develop, implement, and optimize preprocessing and analysis pipelines
  • Conduct advanced statistical and computational modeling of brain data
  • Integrate multimodal datasets (neuroimaging, behavioral, physiological, immune)
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary and international research teams
  • Contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations

Required qualifications

  • D. in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Neuroscience, or a related field
  • Strong experience in MRI data analysis (functional, diffusion, structural MRI)
  • Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB
  • Experience with neuroimaging toolboxes (e.g., FSL, SPM, AFNI, FreeSurfer, etc.)
  • Experience with statistical analysis in R or equivalent
  • Ability to work independently and develop analytical strategies proactively
  • Strong scientific writing and communication skills in English

What we offer

  • Opportunity to develop independent research directions within a large-scale project
  • Support for publishing in high-impact journals
  • Access to rich multimodal clinical and neuroimaging datasets
  • Strong interdisciplinary connections (psychiatry, neuroscience, immunology, animal research)
  • A highly collaborative and international research environment

Employment Terms

  • Full-time postdoctoral position
  • Initial one-year contract, renewable based on performance and funding availability
  • Position available from October 2026
  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled
  • Salary will follow the Taipei Medical University postdoctoral salary scale, including health insurance and standard employment benefits. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and is subject to annual review and adjustment.
